Chardham Yatra
Char Dham is referred to the
four Hindu religious sites
in Uttarakhand state of
India. These are Yamunotri,
Gangotri, Badrinath and
Kedarnath. Nestled in the
lap of majestic Himalayas,
these four sites are the
epicenter of religious
activity in north India.
Traditionally, the Chardham
yatra is undertaken from the
west to the east. Thus, the
yatra starts from Yamunotri,
then proceeding to Gangotri
and finally to Kedarnath and
Badrinath.
Piran Kalier
On the outskirts of Roorkee is the
Dargah of Hazrat Makhdum Allauddin Ali Ahmed 'Sabir'. It is a must for
any visitor to visit this place. The place is known as Piran Kalier and
is located 23 kms South of Haridwar. This Dargah is famed for its mystical
powers and is visited in large numbers both by Hindus and Muslims. In fact
this place is an living example of Hindu-Muslim unity. During the Rabeeull
month of Islamic calender, an Urs is celebrated from the first day of sighting
the moon to the sixteenth day.
Rajaji National Park / Chila
Wildlife Sanctuary
The Rajaji National Park,
spread over an area of 240
sq km, houses the Chila
wildlife Sanctuary and is
situated at a distance of 10
km from Haridwar. Situated
on the banks of River
Ganges, the sanctuary is a
haven for a large number of
animals. This biodiversity
park boasts of nearly 23
mammals and about 315 fauna
species. The river in the
park houses large number of
fishes and fauna in the
water. At Chila you
can have the pleasure of
spotting leopard, tigers,
jungle cat, herd of
elephants, wild boar, stags,
spotted deer, sloth bear,
langur, monkeys, woodpecker,
king cobra etc. During the
monsoons the park remains
closed and otherwise it is
open after sunrise and
closed after dusk.
At Chilla is located in the Rajaji
National park a popular destination for nature and adventure lovers. The
pristine scenic beauty and rich biodiversity of the park has been attracting
wildlife lovers from India and abroad The park has 23 species of mammals
and about 315 avifauna species.
Corbett national park
This
is one of the best wild life
sanctuaries, commemorating
the celebrated hunter Jim
Corbett. It spreads over 526
sq km. of forested area. The
wildlife here of consists of
(618m) Tigers, Panthers,
Wild bear, Sloth bear,
Elephant, Deer, Python and
Crocodiles among others. An
astonishing number (585) of
bird species has been
spotted in the park,
wildlife viewing can be done
from watch towers,
photography and angling
